Be prepared:

Read the detailed instructions on the back of your room and locate the fire exit nearest to your room.

If the fire alarm sound or you smell smoke:

  • Stay calm and do not panic.
  • If you hear the fire alarm, act, do not simply investigate.
  • Please take note of the Emergency Exit Plan which is located at your room’s entrance door.
  • Familiarize yourself with the location of the emergency exits, fire alarm system and fire extinguishers.
  • Touch the door to your room. If it is hot, do not open. If door feels normal, open it and check the corridor and the stairwell. If there is no smoke, then leave your room. Close the door behind you and go to the nearest emergency exit.
  • Do not use the elevators.
  • If there is a smoke in the corridor and stairwell, then go to opposite end of the corridor or return to your room.
  • Call the Front Desk for assistance
  • If the alarm has not yet sounded, but you smell smoke, sound the alarm or contact the Front Desk immediately (dial 3).

If you have to stay in your room:

Fill the bathtub or washbasin with cold water. Soak sheets and towels and put them around the base of the door. Call the Front Desk and tell them your room number and explain that you are staying in your room because of smoke in the corridor or stairwell. If smoke begins to enter your room, crouch down beneath the level of smoke and cover your nose and mouth with a wet cloth.

To prevent fire:

Do not smoke in bed. Be sure to extinguish all cigarettes and cigars. Do not use any cooking or heating appliances other than those supplied by the hotel. Keep matches out of reach of children.
